Live Fish Transfers
PDG Helicopters are the founders and innovators of live fish transfers by helicopter. The Company has amassed over 25 years experience in fish transfers, having flown over 30,000 hours and moved over 250 million smolts.
With our extensive fleet of helicopters, and with our operating bases in Inverness, Cumbernauld (Glasgow) , Kyle of Lochalsh and Kintore, PDG is ideally located to support the requirements of the Scottish fish farming industry. PDG's acquisition of Irish Helicopters will lead to more efficient transfers of fish in Ireland.
We have a dedicated team who are skilled in advising on all aspects of helicopter transfers, from load densities, time and speed of transit to the cost per smolt and/or biomass, or lift rates.
Our helicopters have moved salmon eggs, fry, parr, smolts and broodstock as well as other species of farmed fish including trout, halibut, cod, and charr. Fish are transported in a variety of specially designed buckets, bins, and bags. Each bucket is carefully manufactured with its own oxygenation system and is thoroughly tested and proven before use. PDG employs the highest standards of quality management throughout its operations, ensuring fish health in transit. In accordance with best practice, all equipment is subject to rigorous sterilisation procedures.
PDG offer a fast, friendly and cost effective service, with fixed price quotations and advice given free of charge.
